Clinton Township Vol. Fire Company
Fire Tax Information
Old Fire Tax – Previous millage rate was 0.03 which generated less than $13,000.00 per year to the fire company. A homeowner with an assessed value of $100k paid $18.00 per year, $1.50 per month, or $0.05 per day for Fire Protection in Clinton Township.
Current Fire Tax – Established since 2000-2001 and was raised to 1 mill at that time. It generates approximately $72,000.00 per year to the fire company. However; not everyone pays their taxes on time and this makes budgeting difficult because we never know when we will receive the funds, or if we will ever see the full amount for any given year. A homeowner with an assessed value of $100k pays $100.00 per year, $8.30 per month, or $0.27 per day for Fire Protection in Clinton Township. This is for fire, rescue, and ambulance services that are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Our minimum amount of responders to an incident is two personnel (i.e. ambulance incident) and we are available to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at a maximum cost of $0.24 per hour to the Township.
This costs less than the following items and is arguably much more important.
- -Williamsport Sun Gazette - $0.39 each for home delivery or over $100 yearly
- -Cellular Phone – Minimum plan equals $15.00 monthly
- -Basic Cable television - $24.95 monthly
The previous Police contract with Montgomery Borough was for only 140 hours of coverage per week at a proposed cost of over $90,000.00. This was a cost to the township of $12.36 per hour for one person. But it was not for “full time or 24/7” coverage.
